As soon as the coaches walked out onto the track for the meet against Lackey and McDonough we could tell great things were about to come our way. The Northern Track&Field team rushed out onto the track to do their warm up and show the other competitors they were ready to give their all. They all circled up in silence, stretched out, and mentally prepared themselves for the great things they were about to accomplish. As we stood there together, overlooking our athletes, we couldn't be more proud to see the professionalism they were demonstrating.
At the meet against Lackey and McDonough we were fortunate to have perfect weather conditions. Luckily that was not the only positive factor going into the meet. Northern boys and girls both walked away with a 2-0 sweep against the other teams. It was truly amazing to see all the great performances the Northern Patriots accomplished. All of their hard work they have been putting in has finally paid off. There were tons of first places finishes and personal bests. It was a very exciting meet and a pleasure to see all the improvement. Way to go Northern!
Aziah Pless and Naomi Underwood went 1-2 in the 400. Girls distance swept in the 800, 1600, and 3200. MaQui Yam and Carson Bunting both ran personal bests in the 1600 trimming off loads of time. Kayla Rexroth won the Triple Jump followed by Krista Olsen placing 1st in the Shot Put and Discus. Krista had a personal best in the Discus adding on an entire foot. For the boys, DJ Workcuff won the 200 followed by Scott Carpenter placing 1st in the 400 and leading the distance group to a sweep in the 800. Thatcher Owen and Corey Heim went 1-2 in the 1600 both running personal bests. The boys swept the 3200 resulting in an amazing performance by Brandon Feinberg who cut off 1:12 from his time. Rahn Rice took 1st in the 300 Hurdles, DJ 1st in the High Jump, and Dylan Mullikin 1st in the Long Jump. It was especially nice to see Joe Guidadas finally jump 5'8". Taylor Wagner placed 1st in the Shot Put and went 1-2 with Lee Mackall in the Discus who both obtained personal bests by throwing at least 3 feet further.
There were just too many to name who stood out from the meet and performed well. We thank all of you who pushed yourselves to help the team succeed and ultimately win. It was a great birthday present for coach Sam Becker, shake and bake! Also, another thank you to Geoff Ogden for being our cheering section on the other side of the track. It was nice of you to take a couple of breaks from your 3 hour phone conversation. Great job everyone and see you at practice.
